Creating sustainable deltas.

Over 500 million people globally are living in delta regions.

Deltas are integral to global food supplies, fish stocks, water supply, industry, trade and culture. Deltas are under threat from climate change, rising sea levels, industrial farming techniques and pollutants. We need to act now to prevent the delta systems from collapsing.

Together we can create a better future.

Living Deltas is the leading delta science and research partnership. Climate change is a huge threat to deltas. We're researching ways to mitigate and adapt its effects by understanding what sustainable delta livelihoods look like. To do this we focus on coastal resilience, biodiversity, youth futures, and intergenerational learning.

“The liquid landscapes of Asian mega-deltas face unprecedented threats, made worse by global climate changes. We urgently need adaptive solutions rooted in local culture and knowledge which give a meaningful role to delta communities in charting their futures”.

— Professor Andy Large, Director, UKRI GCRF Living Deltas Hub
